World War I Causes
World War I was caused by a simple tension between the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. The war could be sensed by the summer of 1914. ... The causes of World War I were self-evident and it was seen coming from the on growing tension between different countries.
American Industrialization
“ Not only did many women’s lives forever change after the civil war, so did America as it became more and more industrialized. ... Since this was such a fire hazard it was ruled unsafe but it took until 143 women were killed and 3 men were killed for supervisors to really understand the significance of this fire hazard rule. ... The few women who did work when the industrialization era came along usually received a pay of six dollars a week. The employers justified paying women lower rages for two reasons. The first reason being that unlike men who often worked for one company their entire lives, most of the women who worked were little more than temporary workers, filling time until they married. ...

“When the United States declares war in 1917 and four million young men were drafted for the armed services, Americas labor shortage became very serious.” Although almost all industries would hire male workers, women were primarily employed in textile mills. ... Brave women in eagerness to support the war applied for “ nontraditional jobs such as operating drills, milling machines, turret lathes, grinders, and welding tools.” Women worked for low wages and some men believed that this would cause their income to decrease. Their reason for believing this was because they felt as though their employer would see that women were beginning to settle for less and if they would settle for less then they could decrease men’s pay wage or they could fire them and hire more women for less.
Since the men of the working industry allowed no union membership for female employees, women began their own unions. In 1903 the Women’s Trade Union League was organized. ... On June 9, 1917, the WTUL held a meeting encouraging all women to support the war effort. In return the women demanded that children should be in school and no matter how short the labor field was, they were not to hire anyone under the age of fourteen. ... Needing the support of women for the war, the government accepted the WTUL’s demands. Women were overjoyed at their sudden rise to prominence.
Black Women In World War I
Servants began to take new jobs and middle-class and wealthy families were in desperate needs for caretakers. (Or house servants) Employers began to team up to bring black women from the south up to the north. 500,000 black women began to move from down south to the north to seek better jobs. ... ”
Organizations
The YWCA (young women’s Christian association) was to help the struggling women that were in unusual situations. The YWCA sent 350 women in unusual situations overseas, found housing for women in the Signal Corps, and also ran a hotel in Paris where Red Cross, YWCA, and Salvation Army volunteers could rest a few days.
