Biases Males and Females Language is a very powerful element. It is the most common method of communication. Yet it is often misunderstood and misinterpreted, for language is a very complicated mechanism with a great deal of misunderstanding. There are times when in a conversation with another person we must take their upbringing and gender into consideration. There are people who use language that would be considered biased. There are those who believe that the language that we use in day- to -day conversation is biased anyway. They feel that the term mailman, for example, is one that excludes women mail carriers. Even the word congressmen seems to be biased when in fact it is not. Some women feel that there are words in the English language that exist that have been sexually biased against women. For example men that stay in the house with women are considered the man of the house even if they are only four years of age he is still considered to be the man of the house. This is an example of the gender bias that exists in the English language. The language is arranged so that men are identified with more glorified positions in which they are being dominated and instructed by men.
