William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, so I decided to write on his piece “A Rose for Emily. ... In “A Rose for Emily” William Faulkner explores the theme of refusing to accept change. The main character, Emily Grierson, cannot deal with what is expected of her from her father and family culture of the south. Homer Barron, Emily’s love, is utilized by Faulkner to represent the changing nature of the culture of the south. As Emily suspects Homer may leave her, she refuses to accept change. Emily has become overwhelmed with fear and insanity, which, in turn, leads her to lose touch with reality and take Homer’s life in attempt to keep him forever. ... Miss Emily and Homer seem to come upon some sort of association “on Sunday afternoons,” which the town sees as a courtship, but not a very desirable one at that.
