In this essay I intend to discuss the statement “Romeo and Juliet were the sole agents of their own tragic deaths”

While Juliet was faking death word reaches Romeo of what has happened without being enlightened by the friar, which was meant to happen. ... When visiting the tomb Romeo meets with Paris. ... Romeo finds Juliet and decides to confide in the one thing he has left, death. Juliet wakes to see Romeo dead and in that moment puts a dagger through her heart.

Throughout the play Juliet comes across as a young women who has very little control over her destiny. During the play Juliet is constantly ordered and bossed around by her father. Juliet has a large part in the play towards causing her own death because she fell deeply in love with Romeo and would do anything to love him. Juliet quotes “My only love sprung from my only hate”(Act 1: Scene 5: l137 pg 45). This is one of many quotes throughout the play were Juliet express’s how unfortunate this love, she has, is.
