To the Middle East
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been a most troubling and uncomfortable issue for our country for the past 50-some years. It has also been a major source of unrest and anti-Americanism in the Middle East. We’ve been a key player and participant, but have never been really successful in forcing progress towards lasting solutions to the problems that exist in the area. Now the resolution of these problems is more important than ever. To begin to understand the continuing madness and violence in the Middle East, one needs to go back to the basics. A review of the core facts of the Israeli-Palestinian situation and the resulting underlying emotions of the two peoples can give some perspective and insight into what seems to be an unending chain of tragic events.
