1. Do I have to summarize any of my sources?
2. Do I have to do an analysis of any of my sources as we have done in previous papers? For example, do I need to examine the use of information, the possibility of oversimplification or non-sequitar conclusions?
3. How exactly do we implement the readings from WRAC into our paper, especially when they are not exactly dealing with our topic? I feel like mention them would be losing focus on my subject.
"I was once passed over for a teaching job because I was told I was white and male. It didn't count that I was the most qualified," (D'souza 10). As this quote from Michael Woods, a teacher in California, depicts, many whites have become increasingly scornful of black demands, and vehemently reject racial preferences. By contrast, most blacks support affirmative action as indispensable to fighting the enduring effects of white racism. In the business world the ethics of affirmative action have come under scrutiny. Is hiring people because of their race ethical? What about if these people are oppressed and underprivileged? Thesis...still working on this...
Affirmative action is a program defended in the name of equality whose actual purpose is to redistribute inequality. Affirmative action does not try to expand general wealth and opportunities. Instead, the program tries to achieve a different appropriation of existing wealth and opportunities. To achieve this, the program looks to see whether the racial, ethnic and gender makeup of the people who hold coveted positions fairly reflects the makeup of society. When there are disparities between the number of, for example, whites compared to blacks hired in certain jobs the government will force corporations within an industry to hire more blacks.
