Bill Gates is the CEO and chief programmer for Microsoft and is therefore almost as easily recognisable. Microsoft are credited with bringing the computer and Internet age to billions of people world-wide, but many are now questioning their dominance, and the question of their monopolisation of the industry is currently controversial. So, are Bill Gates and Microsoft the pioneers of a new dawn or are they controlling this brave new age for their own power and financial profit? ... A recent web study concluded that 90% of the world’s adult population has some form of computer access, and that 95% of those people’s primary access was through PCs and MS products. ... Most of the people I spoke to agreed with the general consensus that MS products covered all needs, so why bother with anything else? ... So why is the computing world turning on the apparently popular Microsoft? ... So is Bill Gates just a shrewd (if somewhat totalitarian) businessman or are MS “evil”? ... Conclusion: So what is in our best interest as the world becomes more and more dependent on computers (and therefore MS)? ... With this in mind it seems that MS has targeted the mass market and its sheer size has “sucked” in the rest of the computing world whether they like it or not. There are definite issues to answer about MS trading tactics and these can only get worse in the future, and will it be too late to change when the horrible realisation dawns that Bill Gates and Microsoft unhealthily rule our world.
