In our modern high technological world of the twentieth and now twenty first century, there is being implemented into our society the want and need for plastic. In the present day, plastic is being used to make almost every modern-day trinket, gizmo, toy, container, television, etc. You name it and its probably made of plastic or has some plastic component. ... The modern invention of what we call plastic has supposedly bettered our society when, in fact, it is aiding the destruction of our planet. ... Why is this important when discussing plastic? The main reason is that carbon and hydrogen are the very foundation of plastic. ... The invention of plastic by Du Pont in the late 1930’s was a major turning point in our modern society. ... We wouldn’t need to use anything natural ever again because plastic could work in its place. At least this was the propaganda that was released when “wonderful” plastic was injected into society for the first time. ... After the marijuana tax law passed in 1937, new Du Pont “plastic fibers”, under license since 1936 from a German company named I. ... The article goes on saying that he made plastic cars with these crops. ... In the sense of this “plant” plastic I think it would be a great improvement over our existing materials for automobiles among thousands of other consumer products. ... Now we have clues to two different kinds or forms of plastic. The patented “dead” plastic and the “living” plastic of Henry Ford’s making. It is a little known fact that hydrocarbons(molecules found in oil) are the basis of what plastic has been made of from the 30’s to the present. As mentioned earlier, the plastic developed by Henry Ford, the “living” plastic was made from what are called carbohydrates. ... If you knew what you were doing and had the proper equipment it wouldn’t be that difficult to make plastic out of either one of these molecules.
