Herbal Medicine Analysis Alternative medicine is nothing new. Traditional Chinese medicine, which is the oldest form of herbal medicine, has existed for centuries, but it is only in recent decades that there has been enormous attention focused on these scientifically unproven drugs. Traditional Chinese medicines are based on trial and error and can work very differently depending on the person taking the medicine (Article 6). Modern Medicine physicians need to know every single detail about herbal medicines from its side effects to its positive results. This is not a strange request, but because doctors are searching so hard for answers to their questions they are overlooking other possibilities as to why herbal medicines may work. The whole controversy surrounding the topic of herbal medicines is that the positive results occurring from these medicines can not be scientifically described (Article 5). Even though some of these herbal medicines have been tested and have great results, doctors often refrian from prescribing them. ... Although many doctors do not agree with the use of herbal medicines, statistics prove that people like the “alternative”. Since 1990 to 1997, the use of alternative medicine has increased 25 percent and in 1997 people spent approximately 27 million dollars of out of pocket money to pay alternative care practitioners (Article 1). ... Most of the people that go to alternative care practitioners believe that alternative medicine is definitely the way to go.
