EBOLA
Ebola Virus also known as hemorrhagic fever is a severe, often-fatal disease, which causes massive bleeding and destruction of internal tissues. The Ebola virus is not a problem for the United States but it is a problem in Africa and the Philippines. Humans do not “carry” the virus so researchers believe that the virus is zoonotic (carried by animals) and is normally maintained in an animal host that is native to the African continent. Researchers do not understand why some people are able to recover from the Ebola virus and others are not but it is known that patients who die usually have not developed a significant immune response to the virus at the time of death. People can be exposed to Ebola virus from direct contact with the blood and/or secretions of an infected person.
