“Stand and Deliver” tells the true story of a dedicated math teacher who rescues a group of poor, inner city Latino students from potential delinquency by turning them into serious students with goals for their lives, and high expectations for themselves. It is a film that not only inspires, but motivates teachers and students by showing them that anything is possible. Jaime Escalante left his job at an innovative computer company to change lives, and began teaching in East Los Angeles, at Garfield High School. Instead of the computer science class he was expecting to instruct, he began teaching math. Realizing the potential of his students, he surpasses the usual math curriculum and teaches the class Advanced Placement Calculus for college credit. He ignored all the doubts and stipulations about his class, and used his own teaching methods to excite the students about learning.
