Character Analysis
In Arthur Miller’s play about the 1692 Salem witch trials one character tries to control everyone else so she will not be punished. Set in 1692, Arthur Miller’s account of the Salem witch trials follows the townspeople being accused of witchcraft. Act One in the play introduces Abigail, who has been meddling in the art of witchcraft with other girls from the village and a black slave, Tituba. Throughout the play Arthur establishes Abigail’s intentions are only to save her own, and keep everyone else quiet. By the end of the play Abigail’s voice dies down but her previous actions create the play’s astonishing conclusion. Abigail’s actions benefited her much more than others, and that was her intention.
