An ageing population According to 2001 census there are now over 20% of the population over 60 years old and almost 50% of population over 50 (due to baby boom of post war). 90 % of elderly are living active lives in the community and about 75% are above or well above the poverty level. Normal Ageing Problems · Arthritic deterioration of the joints due to wear and tear over the years means that the joints are not as flexible, i.e. the person is generally stiffer so not as good climbing ladders and steep steps, crawling, getting up from the floor, can’t walk as fast, run up/down hills.
