He has tried several entrepreneurial ventures that have failed, but his barbershop is a particularly difficult business for him. ... He knows that his father never made much money on his shop, though, and because many people want discounts or do not want to pay at all, he finds himself in debt and has to decide whether or not to sell the barbershop. The group of central characters basically sits around in the barbershop and talks about a variety of issues, ranging from the extremely controversial, such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. ... The movie concentrates primarily on Calvin, who through the course of the movie begins to realize the importance of the barbershop as more than just a business, but a social gathering place for the entire community.
