Movies...What is the big deak
Under the advisement of Dr. Jim Field, I have worked in close association with a Ph.D. candidate, Claudia Guerrero-Barajas, on the anaerobic biodegradation and biotransformation of Carbon tetrachloride. The basis of the research revolves around the investigation of different redox mediators that enhance the degradation and transformation of Carbon tetrachloride to other chlorinated solvents, such as Perchloroethene, Chloroform, Dichloromethane, and Chloromethane, along with the production of methane. Conducted in batch experiment, the entire process involves a significant amount of preparation and time. The preparation of these batch experiments occurs one week in advance, which includes washing 120 mL serum bottles, making growth media for the bacterial consortium and volatile fatty acid solutions, flushing the bottles with nitrogen gas for anaerobic environment, and addition of specific amount of bacterial consortia and other nutrients like trace metals.
