Solomon
In 1808 New York a boy was born to a man who was formerly a slave. His name was Soloman Northup and although his father was a slave he was born free. Free, that is, until he was visiting Washington in 1841 and sold to a man in louisiana. His story is told through his autobiography Twelve Years a Slave. Northup was sold into slavery in the very place that was the center of freedom, our capital. From any point building he was housed in looked like any other building in this peaceful city. The quant look of the building can fool the spectator on the outside, but those inprisioned in its walls knew of the discomfort. There was no means of admitting light.
