John Proctor was a tragic character because he stuck to his beliefs during difficult situations all throughout the play. One example of Proctor sticking to his beliefs is when he fights with the court to try and free his wife. John could have easily given up and disowned Elizabeth to keep any blame off of him. ... Another example is when Proctor continued to fight the court to prove that the girls were frauds, even after Elizabeth had been saved. ...
