McDonaldization of Society There is no denying the profound impact McDonaldization has had on cultures and societies around the world, mostly North America. ... No matter how hard one may try, there is no escaping the grasp of McDonaldization. After reading the book The McDonaldization of Society, I came to realize how much my life actually revolves around the principles of McDonaldization. ... Three of the areas of my life in which McDonaldization has influenced me are, education, travel, and work. Education is a terrific illustration of how McDonaldization has taken over aspects of our lives other then the fast food industry. ... As Ritzer says, “Predictability is the third dimension of McDonaldization. ... The second aspect of my life, which has been influenced by McDonaldization, is in my traveling experiences. I travel to Britain as often as I can, since I have many relatives there, and every time I go I experience the McDonaldization principles. ... At first, this may seem harmless enough, and may not seem to fit under any model of McDonaldization, but when you take into account the flight attendant’s greeting, you know that it is one of the most predictable things on the flight. ... This is because the airlines have taken the predictability principle of McDonaldization and expect their employees to perform in this way. And finally, when I arrived at my destination and decide to go sight seeing, the calculability model of McDonaldization comes into play. ... That is a creation of McDonaldization. And finally, the last aspect of my life, which is being controlled by McDonaldization, is my work. ... But even with my new job, the McDonaldization principles still govern the way I work. ... But since the whole book talks about the way McDonalds works, I’ll talk about my other job and show how McDonaldization influences it. Now I work at a cleaning company that cleans office buildings, and all the principles of McDonaldization are there.
