Descartes’ Skepticism In Rene Descartes’ Meditations, he enters upon what has called the project of “Pure Enquiry”, to discover certain and indubitable foundations for knowledge . By subjecting everything to a certain amount of doubt and skepticism, Descartes hoped to find anything that would not be affected by this new doubt he had discovered. ... In this essay I aim to examine and describe Descartes mission to “discover what, if anything is absolutely certain” using his method of skepticism. ... Descartes embraced the ideas of skepticism, also very influential during these times. Skepticism had burst onto the intellectual scene, primarily as a reaction to many academic outlooks. This skepticism claimed that we should never forget about constantly trying to discover the nature of reality and live by appearances alone. Descartes, compelled with these skeptical arguments, at the beginning was not overly skeptical himself, he came to believe that skepticism towards knowledge was the best and only way to discover was knowledge really is.
