In the study done on ethnic identity in urban African American youth, Susan D. McMahon and Roderick J. Watts (2002) explore the links with self-worth, aggression, and other psychological variables. In this study, 209 youth made up of 94% African American adolescents and 6% of adolescents with mixed ethnicities were chosen from two schools in the Chicago Public school system. The 129 females and 80 males ranging from the ages of 10 to 15 were from public housing and lived in an area with high crime and poverty.
