Important dates in Journalism history

America’s first newspaper was published on Thursday September 25th 1690 in Boston. It was called “Publick Occurrences.” Benjamin Harris published it. After only one issue it was suppressed because the British colonial authorities didn’t like it. The paper wasn’t like the newspaper we know today. It had letters, essays, material borrowed from whatever the editor could find. Not much news was used. John Campbell started the Boston News-Letter in 1704. It was the first continuously printed newspaper in the New World. The government authorized it so it was allowed to be printed. From their more newspapers started popping up most of them authorized by the government. In 1906 Dr. Lee De Forest’s vacuum tube was the key break through in the invention of the Radio.
