Black Robe
The Black Robe, a very brutal movie, is set in New France in 1634. A Jesuit priest named LaForgue, or Black Robe as the Natives called him, and a young companion are escorted through the wilderness of Quebec by Huron Indians to find a distant mission in the dead of winter. While on this journey, Black Robe encounters many troubles and has to deal with many things. Black Robe’s two objectives in the movie were to convert the Huron Indians to Christianity, and to make it to a distant mission. ... Luckily, the few that were still alive, including Black Robe, manage to escape. After some time traveling with the group, Black Robe goes his separate way. ... The priest dies and Black Robe takes over in his place. Many Hurons are dying, and they come to Black Robe for help. ... The Black Robe, by Bruce Beresford, attempts to depict to main things. ... In the movie, the man known as Black Robe was one of these people. ... Black Robe first encounters trouble when the Indians for some reason decide that he is a demon. ... The best two examples of the struggles and dedication in the movie are when Black Robe is abandoned to basically die on his own, and when Black Robe and the few Hurons that came back for him are captured and tortured. When Black Robe is abandoned, he stays where he is, trusting in God, and waits in hope of the Huron’s return. When they finally do return, some of the Hurons die and the rest, along with Black Robe are captured and tortured. ... Relativism is demonstrated when Black Robe sings his holy songs along side one of the main Huron Indians, who is singing his native songs.
