Wiseman

... ” Wiseman displays a community that supports itself in a “broken world,” a minister expresses to his congregation. ... ” Wiseman’s camera often directed itself towards scenes in which healthcare supported those in need. ... Wiseman showed that the people of Belfast were not forgotten and the town made sure care was available for all its members of the community. Like Seagals use of “snipping” footage to deliver a point, Frederick Wiseman’s careful subtraction of specific footage of Belfast, Maine delivers an American town that thrives on support for one another. Wiseman showed us what many people in larger, more affluent cities do not see and take for granted. From town meetings to conversations about the current state of the logging industry, to common folk doing laundry at the local laundry mat, Wiseman portrayed a simple, supportive town. By focusing on healthcare and industry workers, Wiseman delivers what could very well be an Early American town. Wiseman did not show us the fast cars, big yachts, fancy restaurants, kids sporting name brand fashion we see on television every day, instead, he captured an American town that takes responsibility for its own and has a deep rooted respect for its history. ... Wiseman used these scenes not only to depict the efforts of providing culture to the town, but as active transitions to provide the audience with a break from the, sometimes harsh, view of the reality of healthcare and social work in America. In one case, Wiseman brings us to a community gathering where a gentleman educates members of his community about past citizens of Belfast that fought in the Civil War.
