The counterfeits were so sophisticated they tricked electronic machines. More than 54,000 counterfeit tickets with a face value of 38.15 million yen were used so motorists could get a free ride on the Metropolitan Expressway network in Tokyo, highway officials said. The 54,512 counterfeit toll tickets were used for about two years to September this year, according to Metropolitan Expressway Public Corp.
