eulogy of love
When the word love is looked up in a modern day dictionary, one finds that it has been given more than twenty different definitions. All of these definitions are mentioned and elaborated by Socrates and his admirers in The Symposium, as they present their separate theories of love, each according to his knowledge and beliefs of the term. As I read The Symposium I found myself getting drawn into certain arguments, such as Socrates’ speech, to the point where the description of love that was presented felt accurate and almost entirely convincing even to a modern day reader who no longer ponders the meaning of such words.
