I want each and every one of you in this room to put yourself in the situation of the medical student. This is your fourth year as a med. student and it took a lot of hard work to get you where you are today. Because of your hard work and dedication in this field you have been invited by a very prominent scientist to work with him and do research. Now once your internship is over with the scientist he can land you a really good position after medical school, a position that you yourself would have never acquired without him. Ok so you find out that he is lying about the data… Is it your responsibility to tell? From a moral and ethical standpoint-yes For your sake as a hard working medical student-no If it weren’t for this researcher who took you under his wing you wouldn’t be where are you are now Think for a minute about what could possibly result afterwards once you tell.
