The Collision of Cultures When there is a conflict between two cultures, such as the encounters between a Hmong family and the American medical community, it results in victims of cross-cultural misunderstanding. A Hmong child’s severe case of epilepsy led to a collision between two very different cultures. The Hmong came to the United States for the same reason they had left their country: because they were trying to resist assimilation.
