Trying to escape my family

Trying To Escape From My Family and Community Like many central Pennsylvanians, I have grown up in a small white dominated community. There was one black family in the community called Bellwood Antis where I had grown up in. Along with the racial surroundings, there was a closer racist group to me, my family. ... I am the only one in my family that has had black friends. I am also the only one in my family who is trying to erase their racist views from their mind. ... However, it seemed like racial jokes were more prevalent than a family member telling everyone about his promotion. I can remember my grandfather telling “nigger jokes,” every time the family gathered. ... Before this class, it was never so clear to me that the racist views of my family were so terrible. ... You know the town where a black family moves in, and it is the talk of the town for weeks. ... But after growing up with my family and community’s ideas, it was hard to not fall into the trap. ... I am REALLY trying to change the view that I have “learned” from the others around me.
