The Two Dragons
The Two Dragons In the story “The Two Dragons” by Elizabeth Lodor Merchant, two dragons, one white and one red, tell the future of an evil king. The rocks tumbled down every time the workmen put a stone on to the foundation. The evil king, Vortigen, stood on a grassy hill watching in disgust. His princess, who was kidnapped by Vortigen’s knights and brought to him to be his wife, laughed as she watched. “This tower will never be built here in this meadow, it’s to muddy,” said the princess. “Nonsense,” yelled the king, “this is a perfect foundation for our tower.” “For this tower to be built,” said Hudson, Vortigen’s wizard, “you must have the blood of a young wizard by the name of Merlin. His blood will make this foundation sturdy enough to build on.” “Very well then, knight, go fetch me this wizard Merlin, bring him to me so we may build my tower,” ordered the king.
