Characters in the story were kids that grew up with him in El Barrio spanish Harlem. Characters like Pili, Jose, fat Louie, Frankie blue eyes, Zorro Jones, Johnny four eyes, and Pedro Pistolas were all really part of Piris life. The characters show how the author had a very rough but fun childhood.
