High and Low

“High and Low” A famous person once said “ beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. I very much believe this to be true. As I visited two outstanding museums in the St. Louis area I realized that beauty can take many shapes and forms. For my field report I chose to do the “high and low” project. For this project we were asked to compare two drastically different museums. Upon entering the city museum we entered a vast world of fun and mischief, while entering the St. Louis museum we were whisked away to a more classy and traditional art environment. In the following I will describe each and show that both are art even though at completely different spectrums of the art world. When first entering the City Museum you are met with the mini city for the forty-eight inch and under crowd. We ducked down and braved the world of the munchkins. The entire museum made me want to be five years old for an hour and run free and discover every crevice of the mini world. It was almost as though it was an enchanted wonderland, with water bridges, coi fish and crazy tunnels. As we searched for hidden creatures marking the 4,000 feet of man made caves and adventure spaces I couldn’t help but be taken back to my childhood. As we continued we suddenly became the meal of a fifty-five foot bowheaded whale on our way to the observation deck. We continued on our journey up to the second floor where we were met by many hands on projects. Here we toured Art City. There you will find a wide variety of art activities and demonstrations.
