In the years after World War 2, many colonies were dismantled, and became independent, but neo-colonialism began to emerge. ... A large number of countries that experienced colonialism and neo-colonialism have become third world countries, these countries are technologically less advanced, or less developed, these are the nations of Asia, Africa and Latin America. These countries are poor, as a result of having to export primary products to the developed countries in return for finished goods, dependence is created. ... In this essay I will attempt to show how colonialism has caused countries to not develop as much as they could have due to the dominant country causing the poor country to become dependent. ... I will show how neo-colonialism has continued this problem by using Asian examples. Countries such as Malaysia and South Korea experienced colonialism but became independent; they grew very fast through major foreign investment and became known as “tiger economies”. ... Countries in the Third World are said to be “under-developed” this is many peoples view due to the fact that the richer western countries exploited the poor countries. ...
