Occurrences of Stigmata and if it is Self-Inflicted Many people throughout the world have claimed that they have had intervention with “Stigmata.” The dissection of a few occurrences should help determine if stigmatization is a self-inflicted problem or an act of a religious higher power. To help determine this, I will define “Stigmata” and explain the signs and wounds that come with “Stigmata.” I will also show the religious beliefs of “Stigmata” and then compare it to the scientific theory of “Stigmata”. Wounds or pain resembling the crucifixion scars of Jusus Christ is the definition of “Stigmata.” (Webster’s dictionary,301) The wounds are the most common signs of “Stigmata.” Besides the wounds, “Stigmata” is also accompanied by other manifestations such as levitation, bilocation, and telepathic faculties. ... The puncture wounds that appear on the hands and feet of the people receiving “Stigmata” resemble the same punctures Jesus Christ received from being nailed to the cross. ... The wounds on the back and shoulders of “Stigmata”recipiants resemble the same markings Christ obtained from carrying the cross. ... People that say they have encountered “Stigmata,” have thier life, before and after the encounter, thoroughly examined to see the nature of their life. ... Some people see “Stigmata” as a punishment, but those who receive it feel it is a blessing. ... Another person strongly effected by “Stigmata”, was Padre Pio. ... On October 22, 1918, Pio wrote to his spiritual advisor, Padre Benedetto, describing how he received the stigmata. ... Mary Francis who was inflicted by all five wounds. ... Physiological science has its opinions on “Stigmata,” yet they are not advanced enough to Doetzel 5 show physical proof that “Stigmata “ is self-inflicted and not because of a religious higher power. With regards to the blood flow that comes with “Stigmata,” Dr. ... Another explanation scientists try to prove is that people receive “Stigmata” during an unconscious state. ... Pierre Janet had a patient who was bleeding from his hands and feet and claimed it was because of “Stigmata “. ... There are so many cases of “Stigmata” with no proof that it is self-inflicted. ... These cases were admitted that they were self-inflicted by the Doetzel 6 people that made these wounds on themselves.
