The first person that makes a huge impact on the direction of Emil’s life is Franz Kromer. Kromer being the portrayal of a classic bully, he introduces Emil to the world of darkness. Emil invented a story about stealing some apples and is then blackmailed by Kromer. Since Emil did not have enough money to pay Kromer off, he begins to steal from the members of his family.
