Symbolism is defined as an object that represents something else to enable a bigger meaning for the reader. Symbolism is used much the same way as a metaphor so the author does not have to tell the reader directly what he/she is meaning. An example for symbolism used is in the short story “The Doll’s House,” written by Katherine Mansfield, as the doll’s house represent much more than meets the eye. The house represents the social structure of the early 20th century England as it looks perfect at first glance but at a closer glance, many imperfections are there. ... The Burnell’s think the same and for having this house their reputation grows higher. On the house itself though, many flaws can be seen and smelt.
