Exploitation of Human Behavior
Obedience exists within each one of us, there has to be because without obedience rules within a society even civilization wouldn’t be possible. The authoritative power, which some people have over us, is the reason why the obedience exists within us. The level of obedience we show to our authority figure depends on us, which at times could become dangerous. In “The Perils of Obedience” Stanley Milgram believes that the obedience that we show to authority figures can become dangerous when the victims don’t have to take responsibility for their actions. Even if the victim’s feel like it’s morally wrong to harm someone as long as they are not responsible most of the subjects continue doing what the authorities say. In Diana Baumrind’s article “Review of Stanley Milgram’s Experiments on Obedience” she believes that Milgram’s experiment could potentially harm the subjects psychologically in the long run because of the obedience required by the authority figure.
