Ideal is regarded as excellence or perfection. To be ideal is practically an object of endeavor, it is an amazing thing to have , but only a select few have ever possessed this talent. In To kill a mocking bird, by Harper Lee, the world Jem and Scout live in is a very difficult one, but with the help of Atticus they have learned essential skills to live wonderful lives. Atticus' strong teachings and actions have taught Jem and Scout how to get along as model human beings. Atticus is an ideal role model for Jem and Scout because he teaches them to tolerate and understand others. He taught them to be disciplined, instead of reacting negatively , they now comprehend the importance of trying to find the positive in every situation. Atticus also teaches Jem and Scout that people should treat each other with the same respect they would want from others. They learn that everyone is equal. Atticus is an ideal role model for Jem and Scout. Atticus teaches Jem and Scout how to tolerate certain peoples behavior, and learn to understand them better. Atticus' tolerance was never more evident when Scout had returned from Mrs. Dubose's house. Scout was curious to know the meaning of a nigger lover. Scout had heard this term quite often from Mrs.Dubose's descriptions of Atticus' personality. " You aren't really a nigger- lover , then are you? " " I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody... I'm hard put, sometimes baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name.
