The Bet

Nick woke up with a start. He was sweating profusely. He took a glance at the clock. It was 2:35 a.m. “Just another nightmare” he said to himself. He jumped out of bed to get a glass of water. After drinking the glass of water he looked out of the window. It was very still and hot outside. The streets were empty. Then he started pacing himself around the room thinking about the day. That day, it was a minimum day at his school. Now he was on a vacation for the next two weeks. It was Christmas time. After he had returned from school, he usually started playing games on his Pc. But on this particular day he had felt like taking a nap. When he woke up, he found out that the doorbell was ringing. He starred at the clock it was 5:30 p.m. He had taken a so called nap of five hours. If it would be his dad, then he was in trouble. He closed his eyes and opened the door. It was just the salesman. Seeing the salesman, he shut the door right on his face. He didn’t care for the salesman. An hour later the doorbell rang again and he was sure that this time it was his dad. He opened the door. His dad came in. He immediately went to his table where he usually did his homework. But now as he had no homework he had started studying on the table. In the time span between the salesman ringing the bell and his dad ringing the bell, he had crammed in 1 math chapter and skimmed through a 100 pages in his reading book. Seeing Nick’s productivity his dad had let him play the rest of the day. His dad was a doctor and wanted Nick to be one also. So he often forced Nick to study. His dad had thought that Nick had been studying since he came from school.
