“Free Will”
Do human beings have freedom? ... I will argue in support of the compatiblistic view of free will, which I believe to be the true form of freedom. ... A compatiblist would say that a person has the freedom to choose whatever the want, but their choice is shaped by what they have been taught by their environment and past experiences. ... The will to do something is therefore believed to be ruled by your heredity and your environment, but you still have the freedom of choice. ... Therefore a compatiblist would say that nothing, or no one, can know what decision a person will make, but that individual has the freedom to choose that choice, and that choice is determined by one’s environment and past experiences. ... To me, a person has the freedom to choose whatever they desire, but that desire for a certain choice is determined by something from their environment. It is absurd to think that a person makes a choice freely without any outside influence; which is the libertarian’s view of freedom. ... I think that there is a lot of solid reasoning that supports the belief of compatiblism to be the true form of freedom.
