Drinking Age Should Not Be Lowered

Many people, especially adolescents, are arguing that the legal drinking age should be lowered to eighteen years of age, but I completely disagree with that. ... If the drinking age were lowered , the number of alcohol related accidents, alcohol dependency, and the number of underage kids that drank would increase. ... Reports show that during the 1970’s, when the drinking age was dropped to eighteen, that the number of alcohol related accidents increased by eleven percent. The higher the drinking age the harder it is for young people to get alcohol into their possession. ... They would also not be able to go out to bars and clubs, and take chances of driving home. There are enough people doing that now, why should the numbers be raised just so a large number of adolescents can go out and party and drink. ... I am not a parent yet, but I do have a family, and I don’t like to think about anybody in my family getting hurt by a drunk driver.
