Whilst listening to David Fincher on the DVD commentaries (items 1, 2 and 3) I found that in his movies he usually looks to see what he could get away with in his films, and what the producers would allow. As he said in his interview with the empire (item 16) ‘everybody hated Alien’ (Alien 3 David Fincher’s first big Hollywood film) ‘but nobody hated it more than I did’. ... On the commentary on Se7en (item 2) Fincher and Pitt said that ‘the producers wanted him to holster his weapon’ and change this aspect of the end of the film but they fought the producers and won. ... Fincher does tend to use similar stars and often his friends in minor parts.
