Comparing/Contrasting Sherwood Anderson’s “Queer” and Richard Wright’s “The Man Who Was Almost a Man” World War I and World War II mark two highly significant eras in our American history. ... The story “Queer” by Sherwood Anderson was written just after the ending of World War I and is an example of how a World War can affect one’s attitude in everyday life. “The Man Who Was Almost A Man” by Richard Wright, is a very similar story in that both of the main characters felt as if they had to prove something, yet the latter story was written seventeen years later in the middle of World War II. “Queer,” by Sherwood Anderson, was written in 1919- the same year that World War I ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. ...
