Violent Crime
Violent crime ranges from murder, to rape, to even robbery and the US is deemed to be an extremely violent society. Explanations for this high violence rate include family conflict, exposure to violence, the availability of firearms and weapons, human instincts, personal traits and substance abuse. Substance abuse influences violence in 3 basic ways: psychopharmacological relationship (violence can be the result of a mood altering drug), economic compulsive behavior (using violence as a means to support the habit), and systematic link (rival gangs battling over drug territory and markets). Rape is defined as the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly taken against her will but there are different types of rape.
