For the purpose of this literature review, Cultural Impacts of Tourism in the Hawaiian Islands, the author uses secondary and tertiary research methodologies. The IHTTI library has a variety of books available on tourism, impacts of tourism, and journal articles which the writer used to acquire most of the knowledge necessary. The author choose general books on tourism to get an overview of the importance of tourism, as well as to learn briefly the areas that tourism impacts. Working from general to specific, the author then used books containing more detailed information about impacts of tourism. A book on case studies in less developed countries, and an article of a case study in developed countries was even used to gather a better understanding of exactly how a culture is affected by tourism. ... Over the last few decades tourism has developed to become one of the world’s largest industries. Almost every individual on the planet has been affected by the growth of tourism in some manner. From developing countries to less developed countries, tourism has encompassed nearly every corner of the globe. With this growth comes the inevitability that tourism harvests impacts, both small and large, upon the peoples, cultures, environment, and the economy. It is important, however, to note that each individual impact of tourism is indirectly related and affected by the other.
