Innovators of The Middle Ages

During the middle ages, whole new ideas on what a good person should do to define themselves as such, came to be. If a person happened to grow up as a serf, they had some rather different expectations placed upon them, then say, a lord. If a serf was a man, he would be expected to have a wife, children, and would be expected to work the fields of his lord all day long. He should be humble and pious and would be expected to pay a portion of his crops to the Lord upon whose ground he toiled. A woman would be expected to raise a family, maintain a household, namely cooking and cleaning. If she had time to spare she could always sew or knit. If a man was lucky enough to be a lord, he would be expected to oversee his estate or estates and to pay homage to his overlord as well as provide anything to which his overlord was entitled.
