Lethal Gun Play in America

... Within recent years the violence has become more lethal and on a larger scale. The wide spread of lethal violence came into America’s living room with names like Paducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Santee, California and Littleton, Colorado. The lethal violence in these schools involved multiple shootings and the victims at random. ... Darcia Bowman wrote,” Lethal School Shootings Resemble Workplace Rampages”. ... David Hemenway wrote “Lethal Violence in the Schools” it also uses academic voice, word choice and comparison as a writing technique but an emotive writing style is also used. ... Bowman also uses a few choice words that show emotion, this can be seen where it is written “rampage shootings” (1), “explosion of violence” (2), “Columbine massacre” (2), these words are few and don’t take away from the informative meaning of the article, but still could play a role of making the reader bias from the true meaning of the article. ... In contrast, Hemenway uses a comparison technique in his article, but unlike Bowman, only once is there a comparison between the inner city and rural and suburban schools this is shown, where he briefly describes that the inner city lethal violence were gang related or caused by fights and the only shootings that would make the evening news would be the ones from white rural and suburban areas (2). ... Hemenway also used emotion in the article, but the emotive charge is more towards what America feels and not a personal emotion, but still this could be a persuader that could lead the reader in the wrong direction of the meaning of the article.
