The best way to describe Pop Music is that it is a music genre that is, or has been, well known (popular) to the general public (Whitburn 17). In fact, Classical music was, in its time, popular music. ... Today’s modern Pop Music is best described as a style of music that is contained in the Top 40 Charts (Whitburn 16). ... Musically the Beatles began a wave in new Pop Groups that spawned from their example. ... Today, the Beatles have accomplished many feats and still continue creating music.
Formed in 1961, the Beach Boys came out with a new style of music that was upbeat and had new harmonies and rhythms that was new to the Pop Music Charts. ...
Of course these aren’t the only two groups that dominated the Pop Charts of the 1960’s but they are good examples of the types of Pop Music of the 60’s. It is safe to say that both groups have influenced today’s music and artists.
