In “The Road Not Taken” it was the traveler who posed as the dramatic vehicle. The speaker presented ideas and meditations that were not clearly stated, but contrarily a bit muddled and allowed the reader to develop his or her own ideas in interpreting the poem (Ogilvie 2). ... One path was one that was often taken by those who did not have a strong belief in Christianity. ... The road that would be chosen led to the unknown, as does any choice in life. Although the traveler strained his eyes to see as far the road stretched, he was unable to determine where the path led. ... He decided to take the path that had not been most commonly traveled upon. ... Because the speaker was not completely convinced that he made the right choice, perhaps the uncertainty represented the traveler’s faith. ... Maybe the speaker did not want to necessarily follow the crowd. ... Since the time they had fallen, no one had passed by on the road. ...
Throughout the poem Frost has an underlying theme of nostalgia of not traveling upon the other path.
