Preoperational Stage
Jean Piaget was born in 1986 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland and died in Geneva at the age of 85. He had a brilliant career and wrote over 60 books and hundred’s of articles. His research in developmental psychology was an elaboration of a theory of cognitive development in children that came to be known as genetic epistemology. He argued that the growth and mental development of the human child proceeds through a series of stages or steps resulting in what he referred to as the operational person, meaning a fully developed adult. These stages are the sensorimotor stage, the preoperational stage, the concrete stage and the formal operational stage. When referring to young children as egocentric Piaget was classifying the preoperational stage in children.
