Choosing Beliefs
The beliefs that an individual holds may be abandoned, gained, or perhaps changed to some degree during a lifetime; but how do these changes occur and why? Can a person choose his beliefs with free will like he would choose what kind of car he wants or like deciding what to buy for lunch? ... We cannot simply pick and choose our beliefs, when we are young much of what we believe is taught to us by parents and other role models, but as we age and begin thinking for ourselves some of those beliefs are abandoned and others gained through events and experiences. ... So for a child who has no other point of view to base its beliefs on, and that child naturally believes what its parents are telling it, have no other choice but to share that belief.
